Is it better?

Is it fair for us to say that music is better than any other profession or field of interest?

I think it's fair to say that it's different. But saying it's better than any other profession is like saying "This song is good, no questions asked."
It's very hard to say that anything is better than anything else because opinion is different from person to person. For example, the first song Haltmeier played in Ed Lab yesterday, I thought it was bad, but the lyrics were good, making it both a good and bad song in my opinion at the same time. As a profession or field of interest, a person could argue that being a garbage man stinks, but provides good benefits and pays well. Or maybe being a health inspector is awesome for all the free food but it always brings my day down when I have to close a small family buisness down. And maybe some people just really like their jobs. If you ever watch the show "Dirty Jobs" on the Discovery Channel, those jobs are smelly, hardwork, and probably not the best paying jobs, but the people doing those jobs are really proud of what they do, and I'm sure they would think their job is better than a profession of music. So no, music isn't "better" for everyone. But it's fair to say that it's the best choice for some of us.

I am going agree with Dani. Its not fair to assume that music is a better profession than anyother.
1) We haven't worked doing anything else

Do any of you have a job that makes 5 or 6 figure salary that you can compare music to? I think not.
and 2
2) Music is not the best paying job

Music might be a spirtually fulfilling job for us. But to say that because we are at one with ourselves and happy with our job doesnt make it any better than my mom who is a nurse. As long as you are happy with job it doesnt matter

No. It's not fair.

Musicians clearly don't have the capability as a rocket scientist or a brain surgent.

We would all be dead if there weren't ceritfied doctors.

K?

Thanks.

It is not fair to say that music is the best field of interest because if that was so, arts departments all across the country would not be begging for funding. Musicians have different capabilities than a lot of other well thought after professions like doctors and lawyers. That is why musicians are rarely respected. And why most people view music as a hobby and not a profession.

Yeah, i think that not only should everything be viewed on a similair level, nothing "BETTER" or "WORSE" than any other profession, but it's so cool to be able to pull from these other points of interest in order to better teach or enjoy or relate to music.

I totally agree with Justin. You need the other occupations to survive. You can not sing if you get sick and have a sore throat and nobody's making the Ricolla.
