So, last Friday, Meg the grad assistant for Schola lead us through warm ups and onward to our readings and carols piece. Lucky for us, we are doing an awesome gospel song. Anyway, the sopranos and altos were not singing with enough enthusiasm and depth so Meg said, "Women sing like a big African-American woman" At first, my mind kind of shuttered and then I realized it was a positive image and the choir responded with excellent sound. However later on, maybe in the weekend, someone called her for being out of line and being stereotypical.
What do you guys think. Are stereotypes bad even if they are used in a positive way. African-American women do have a certain sound to them. Speak!

That's true. It was not said in any kind of negative way, so I don't see why anyone should be offended. That's it.
